Annihilation Power
Fusion is transformative, but not sufficient for the most extreme engineering in the Space Adventures universe. Technologies such as sustained wrap travel, large field projectors, fortress-scale gate support, and high-energy gravity engineering require power densities beyond what practical fusion alone can usually provide.
That is why advanced civilization eventually develops annihilation power.
Summary
- source: controlled matter-antimatter annihilation
- advantage: unmatched energy density
- main use: systems that require huge power in small mass or volume
- core limitation: antimatter is difficult to produce, contain, meter, and transport safely
Why Fusion Is Not Enough
Micro-fusion and grid-scale fusion solve most ordinary energy needs. They are excellent for vehicles, habitats, cities, industrial plants, and even many spacecraft.
But certain applications demand something more:
- wrap engines need extreme short-burst and sustained field energy
- giant gate systems require very high peak loads and stabilization reserves
- large gravity-control systems need precision field power at extraordinary density
- strategic spacecraft need compact energy sources when reactor mass becomes a limiting factor
Fusion gives civilization abundance. Annihilation gives civilization access to the extreme edge of possibility.
How The Energy Is Used
Matter-antimatter annihilation does not mean "boil water and run a steam turbine" by default. Real annihilation releases energy into high-energy photons and fast secondary particles. In advanced engineering, this output is routed through conversion hardware instead of treated as ordinary heat whenever possible.
Typical uses include:
- direct conversion of charged annihilation products into electrical potential
- field injection into wrap or gravity-control systems
- plasma heating for hybrid propulsion or reactor startup
- limited thermal capture where brute-force heat is acceptable
Canon Default
In the setting, annihilation power is usually not the common wall-socket technology of ordinary homes. It is the strategic high-density tier above conventional fusion infrastructure.
