Energy Storage And Transmission

Even in a civilization with micro-fusion cells and annihilation plants, energy storage and transmission still matter enormously.

Why Storage Still Makes Sense

Yes, it still makes sense.

Micro-fusion cells provide durable local generation, but they do not solve every power problem. Storage remains essential for:

  • sudden peak loads
  • weapons or shield pulses
  • medical and life-support backup
  • transport systems that need silent reserve power
  • grid balancing and emergency recovery
  • safe buffering between reactors and delicate systems

In short, generation and storage do different jobs.

Typical Storage Forms

  • high-density capacitor banks for instant discharge
  • field batteries for transport and defense systems
  • cryogenic or exotic-state storage modules for strategic reserves
  • antimatter reserve packets for extreme applications

Transmission

Long-range energy transmission becomes necessary whenever local generation is inefficient, politically restricted, or too dangerous to place near civilians.

Common transmission forms can include:

  • beamed microwave or laser power
  • guided plasma or field conduits
  • superconducting trunk lines in core infrastructure
  • orbital relay and collector platforms

Why It Matters In Story

Power distribution creates geography just as transport does.

  • some worlds export refined power
  • some worlds import it through relay networks
  • some ships carry generation but still depend on recharge infrastructure for high-intensity systems
  • some military or frontier systems become valuable because they are energy nodes, not population centers
