Defensive Fields And Shield Systems
When energy engineering and gravity control mature, defense stops being only a matter of thick metal. Civilizations develop active defensive fields that can intercept danger before it physically strikes the protected structure.
What Shields Do
Advanced shield systems can:
- dissipate thermal and radiant energy
- deflect or destabilize incoming charged particle streams
- reduce damage from fast debris and micrometeoroids
- deform the effectiveness of some kinetic impacts
- create temporary exclusion envelopes around critical assets
Why Shields Do Not Solve Everything
Shields are not magical invulnerability.
- strong fields consume power
- sustained fire can overload local sections
- some weapons are designed to saturate or phase through certain defenses
- large coverage areas require enormous engineering support
Typical Use Cases
- starships and escorts
- gate hubs and orbital stations
- floating cities and lift platforms
- military bases and strategic vaults
